Statement of Need
Despite the prevalence of obesity and the emergence of safe and effective AOMs, primary care clinicians have been slow to adopt the evidence-based concept that obesity is a chronic, relapsing disease that requires a multipronged approach. People with obesity and overweight are at increased risk for serious diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers. In turn, patients experience reduced quality of life, and a considerable burden is placed on healthcare systems and individuals. As such, there is a pressing need for novel pharmacological interventions and educational programs to bridge the gap between trials and clinical practice.
