Description: In the United States, obesity and overweight are an epidemic and a major health concern worldwide. Excess adipose tissue can lead to diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, poor mental health, and musculoskeletal disorders, resulting in decreased quality of life and increased mortality. While lifestyle modifications are a cornerstone of obesity and overweight management, most patients do not achieve durable results, highlighting a need for pharmacological interventions. This educational curriculum will help primary care clinicians identify patients with obesity who could benefit from weight-loss medicines and integrate evidence-based strategies for motivational interviewing and shared decision-making to improve outcomes for patients with obesity.
